Flickr & Fair Use Policy

Having a site like Flickr is good because of it's public domain. Anyone can use the pictures in the public domain, free of cost. The copyright law is no longer in effect for the pictures in the public domain. You could use the pictures in a magazine, book, or whatever you wanted without having to worry about contacting the photographer and possibly paying just to use the picture. There is also a fair use policy for things not in the public domain. It is usually the 10% rule, which mean you can only use 10% of most text and data. You can use up to 10%, but no more than 1000 words of essays, articles, or stories, of a single copyrighted work.
You may use 10% of data from a database, but no more than 2500 fields. You may use up to 10%, but no more than 3 minutes, of a single movie, TV show, or video. You may use of to 10%, but no more than 30 seconds of music You may use a single photograph/illustration. You may not use more than 5 images from a single artist or photographer. You may use up to 10%, but no more than 15 images from a publication.

Reflection

Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about online safety, ID theft, and cyberbullying. It is important to follow online safety rules so that ID theft and cyberbullying doesn't happen to you. ID theft and cyberbullying are both against the law. ID theft is when someone gets your social security number, credit card number, or other private information and acts as if they were you. Cyberbullying is when someone harasses someone else over the internet. Tips to stop ID theft are shredding all important papers, and don't give out your information to unsecured websites. Tips to stop cyberbullying are: don't retaliate, report it, and block them. You can follow all of these tips by using online safety, also known as netiquette. Some netiquette rules are: follow the same standard of behavior online as you do in real life, know where you are in cyberspace, respect other people’s time and bandwidth, make yourself look good online, share your knowledge, help keep flame wars under control, respect other people’s privacy, don’t abuse your power, and be forgiving of other people’s mistakes.

RSS Feed

What does RSS stand for? Really Simple Syndication

How does it Work? You get a reader (ex. Google Reader) and subscribe to blogs or news sites.

What are 2 benefits to using one? You don’t constantly have to check every single website, and you only have to subscribe once.

Compare and contrast “RSS Feeds”, “Feed Reader”, or “Aggregator”? RSS feeds is the news you already subscribed to, and the feed reader is what you used to read it, and the aggregator is how it works.

What Google product is an RSS Feed? Google Reader

What do you need in order to sign up for an RSS feed? An account on iGoogle, or other reader site.

New Technology

After a man got tired of having to make his bed every morning, he decided to create something so the bed could make itself. Sensors under the mattress detect when the sleeper gets up, and a few seconds later, the robotic arms open. The arms secure cords along each side of the comforter between two rollers, then move forward, pulling the comforter up. As this is happening, cords attached to the pillowcases straighten them. Trays holding the pillows then lift, allowing the comforter to pass below them. http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2012-09/bed-makes-itself

Christmas Break

Over Christmas break I went to church on Christmas Eve, then i went out to eat with my whole family (aunt, grandma, grandpa, etc.) to Golden Corral. Then the next morning,My brother, sister, and I opened presents from "Santa". Then more of my family came over, and we all opened presents from each other. Then we had egg casserole and biscuits and gravy for breakfast. After that,we got more food ready for the rest of my family to come over, and we all had dinner together. The rest of my break consisted of basketball practice, except when i spend the night at my best friends house on New Year's Eve.
